Metabolites burst signal the differentiation of stem cells

Published on Scientific Reports  the first observation of the burst of metabolites concentration occurring during the differentiation “in-vivo” of pluripotent stem cells. The experiment carried out in murine models evidenced that an increase of concentration of some volatile compounds occurs during the differentiation of pluripotent stem cells. The cells later evolved in teratomas. The study was carried out with gas-chromatography and electronic nose and it is a step towards the use of electronic noses to improve the safety of stem cells therapy.
